The Base Camp: Lohajung

Lohajung, base camp for this trek, 2347 meters above sea level, is a small beautiful village which is a nerve centre of 12-15 villages. The name, as the locals say, comes from the mythology that Goddess Parvati had a war (jung) with a demon Lohasur here. If you have an extra day to save, you can go on a trek to Ajan Top. A broad bugyal with a sanctuary roosted on it’s best, Ajan top makes for a flawless outing. You get awesome perspectives of Maiktoli from here.

Song of the day will be, “Chala jaata hoon kissi kee dhun mein, dhadkte dil ke taarane liye”

First day is an easy day, rarely a trek begins with a slope. After a slope, we reach Neel Ganga river stream, and your heart might sing a song “ye haseen vadiyan”.

After crossing Neel Ganga, a steep ascent begins and song genre changes again to “bahut kathin hai dagar panghat kee”, wait wait it will not be all that difficult, even for the slow ones you shall reach the first camp site deedna/tolpani in max 5 hours.

Beautiful Freezed lake in brahmatal

Previous day you trekked for 6.5 kms. Today’s trail is mostly all ascent sometimes easy and some times difficult. Today is about witnessing Asia largest meadows and your head will keep playing songs like “ye kahan aa gae yoon hee saath chalte chalte” or for youngsters song like “Suraj kee bahoon mein, ab hai ye zindagi”. Ali bugyal, Bugyal is hindi word for grassland, is so beautiful that your head would definitely throw ideas of making this your home and your heart might sing songs like “ye mera ghar ye tera ghar… ye ghar bahut haseen hai”

Day 4: Brahmatal to Tilbudi via Brahmatal Pass
  • Altitude: 10,440 ft (3,182 m) to  11,240 ft (3,426 m) via to 12,200 ft (3,734 m)

  • Nature of Slope: Moderate.

Snow mountain walk at Kedarkantha Trek

Now you be tracing your way back to civilization through Oak and Rhododendron forest, Bugyaals and Neel Ganga River. Your heart would keep singing, “ae jaate hue lamho zara tehro”, your mind would feel proud of your body, you already have thoughts on what all you shall miss. On one side you want to reach Wan so that you can bathe n freshen up on other hand you don’t want this to finish up. Between this battle of mind and body, your hands would be busy clicking pictures if you managed to save some battery on phone.

Your head is full of stories you are looking for friends and family members so that you can share your stories with them. If you are some one who has completed the Roopkund trek, you must owe it to your body fitness regime that made this possible. While you inspire other to trek, do advice them to prepare well. Essence of trekking is in it’s Preparation.

“Yoon hee kat jaega safar saath chalne se”

Day 6:  Lohajung to Rishikesh

Departure from Wan by 6 am. You are expected back in Rishikesh by 6 pm. Time taken is 10-12 hours. During travel, your head shall be a juke box, memories shall keep flashing and your lips shall keep singing your favorite numbers. I usually adept this song, “nahin jaana, nahin jaana mujhe office vapas nahin jaana”. Pahadi Raaste are as interesting as life is with umpteen hair pin bends, don’t forget to take Avomine if those turns and twists trouble you. Else keep your stomach light and head unleashed to live memories.

“Aane wala kal ek sapna hai, beeta hus kal bas apna hai, hum beete kal mein rehte hein, yaadon ke sab jugoon jangal mein rehte hein”

CU on next trek soon.
