Nagtibba Trek, is the simplest yet “true trek feel” trail for the beginners of Delhi Region. Nagtibba Top is the highest peak of the Mussoorie Hills Uttrakhand India. The etymology of the word NagTibba comes from the word Nag which means a kind of snake and Tibba means a kind of mountain.
The 16 km trail which begins from Pantwari to Nag Tibba Top can be easily accomplished in 3 days and 2 nights, and you shall get enough time to sit and enjoy the ever-changing canvas of the Mussoorie Hills. Most Uttrakhand treks have the spiritual and religious connection as well, on this trek Nag Tibba Temple shall entice you to sit calmly in Dhyan to soak in pious energies.
By trekking to Nag Tibba Top (altitude of 9915 ft), you allow yourself to witness, the true beauty of Mussoorie Hills, what really Mussoorie city must be famous for before commercialization and concrete jungle must have taken over. Beautiful Rhododendron and oak forest shall want you to rest under a tree and sketch or write a poetry to ink the moment.
Mussoorie Hills is the only place in the world after Switzerland to host the winter line phenomenon. From mid-October to January, while the sun sets, the western skyline showcases a majestic colorful combination of yellow, red, orange, grey and mauve. The reason behind being the refraction of sunlight at a specific angle. Beholding a sight as this is something you inscribe in your memory for a lifetime.
From the highs of Nag Tibba, you can check out Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath, and Gangotri peaks—all totally entrancing snow pinnacles of the Garhwal Himalayas! Safety poses no concern as far as the varied age groups for this trek is concerned, from kids to corporates to couples to solo, this trek can prove to be a humble beginning for anyone. This is also one of the few treks which are open in winters and give spectacular witness to snow fall.
From Dehradun, It takes 85 km of beautiful mountain journey to reach Pantwari the base camp of Nagtibba. A beautiful little town with tiny shops and several travelers, all dressed in trekking gear makes you feel that you are a sports person, came for a championship event. Start your journey after a light meal.
Make sure that you are starting the trek with proper stretch exercises. And if you think you can’t carry your full bag pack, you are offloading it to the mules. Be ready with the daypack full of essentials, especially another layer of clothing and water bottle.
Unlike most treks, this trek begins with a steep ascent and you shall be able to listen to your heartbeat. First timers might also feel, that the decision to trek wasn’t the right one. Don’t compete with seasoned trekkers, find your own pace, focus on breathing and keep one step after another. Soon you will find your rhythm.
I am amazed at my body, every time I trek, the moment I think energy has finished, in a little while new leash of energy is unleashed. By experience I can tell you, keep walking, keep breathing.
At the end of the day, you shall reach a beautiful campsite at khaitan meadows. Don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful sunset and winterline.
Things to take care at the end of the day is your emotions. If this is your first trek and if you are tired, you will feel little emotionally exhausted. Don’t forget to eat well, drink warm water and rest. And if you are feeling uncomfortable, do let your trek leader know. Don’t hesitate.
Today you shall wake up early as long and a very beautiful day is waiting for you, Also morning mountains are so fresh and beautiful. Come out of the tent properly dressed and head covered, stand in titanic pose and experience the wind, the freshness and don’t forget to breathe deep. Let your lungs feel energetic with oxy supply. After all, you are on the trek for health benefits too. Let your eyes enjoy the beauty & ears enjoy the silence of the mountains.
Get ready, have breakfast and pack your lunch in the lunch boxes, make your day pack ready, don’t forget to pack your sleeping bags and help someone pack your tents too. The joy of being on the trek is doing a lot of new things yourself.
Every now and then, you shall experience, full breathing, this means your lungs are liking the opportunity to expand. When you go back home, start running if you are not doing it already, and give your lungs more opportunity of expansion.
Today’s hike is beautiful, rhododendrons and oak jungle shall entice you, dried leaves pathway with red flowers on them shall make you feel special throughout. Once you reach the Nag Tibba temple, you will be amazed at the clear wide opening. We usually don’t imagine such an open space in the mountains.
On one side of this open space, you shall find a serene small temple of Nag Devta. I find the place worth a visit for its energy. On another side, a small climb and you shall be able to see a lot of peaks of Uttrakhand. Usually, by the time we reach Jhandi Top, clouds settle in, its a good idea to see the peaks from here.
Don’t forget to rest here for a while, eat your lunch and the start last 1 km to the Jhandi Top. The trail is definitely toughest so far, but the person who shall focus on just the next step shall be able to do it with ease. People coming down shall keep motivating you by saying, its just 10 mins away, don’t worry, keep walking. And yes you got to do exactly the same, keep walking one step at a time and before you realize you shall be at the top. The joy of reaching the top is unparallel, clicking a picture with national flag (that’s why its called Jhandi Top) shall make you feel a hero. Enjoy the time you are on the Top. Don’t take off your cap. Rest, sleep, roll, draw, paint write, make the moment memorable.
If you young and vibrant, you shall enjoy stepping down the trail with velocity. Enjoy, just two things, in speed, you might miss out on beauty and time with nature. Hence you might want to slow yourself down and enjoy while you are here.
Two, you may miss out on the opportunity to support someone on the trek who is slow or who is finding the decent difficult. After all, the trek is a real-life game simulation and you shall only win if the entire team wins.
My advice is to go slow, enjoy and support the entire group. You may decide or design some game too.
Slow people, new people, heavy people, old people….just go slow. Keep breathing deep, see each step carefully, don’t step on loose stones. It might take an hour longer, but it’s important to reach back safe and hearty. Don’t forget trek isn’t about competing or comparing.
When you shall reach the top, don’t forget to see the top of the mountain and congratulate yourself for the might trek that you have undertaken.
Surely you have elevated your capacity to play a bigger game in life.
Life lesson the trek offers is, all journey begins with a tiny step and are accomplished by tiny steps one after another.
